About this track
The two “Letter” tracks on this album are somewhat autobiographical. At the time they were written, “Letter I” was rooted in non-fiction, while “Letter II” was imaginary.
Then I re-established contact with the friend on which these songs are based. So “Letter II” is only partially fiction. (You’d have to ask him if he was thinking what was in the lyrics.)
This life imitating art thing is kind of like the chicken and the egg.
Lyrics
Hi, it's me, I know we haven't kept in touch
Things are hectic here with everything that goes on
Then I saw something that made me think of you
And I realized how quickly time had passed
I remember all the times we used to talk
I still feel we have a lot of things in common
I know you don't think it's wise for us to talk
But I think you underestimate yourself
Am I still worried that you feel for me?
I know that isn't something you can help
I know I can't return the sentiment
But why should all these factors interfere?
Maybe part of me is overly naive
But I know I miss you -- don't you miss me, too?
I am writing to you only in my mind
And I hope I have the strength to write it down
