All the Times I Remember

About this track

This song is another one written entirely with major chords. That’s not a hard thing to do in a diatonic scale if you stick with certain intervals (I-IV-V, of course). This track does not stick to those certain intervals.

No, it’s not a groundbreaking technique, but it’s enough to lend a certain amount of lift to the song. It doesn’t feel quite right, but there’s nothing specifically dissonant about it. It’s also the only thing I’ve done (so far) with a marching rhythm. It strikes me as kind of Celtic.

The lyrics are incredibly stream of conscious. This song is already weird musically, so the words should follow suit. At first, I thought they were humorous, but upon closer inspection, they’re pretty dark.

Lyrics

Somewhere in the darkness of my mind
There's a memory still waiting
For the moment it will be revealed
To be the truth of an outright lie

Words remind me of a different time
When the colors all but faded
Who am I to judge you when you fall?
It's not the same, just a little more

And all the times I remembered to breathe
For once I thought it would turn out right
And all the times I remembered to speak
About the things I regret the most
They are the things you would cherish most

Somewhere in the darkness of my mind
All these words possess a meaning
I won't know until I start to dream
And only then will it all make sense

And all the times I remembered to see
Beyond the veil of uncertainty
And all the times I remembered to be
The one you love out of everything
I don't know what that's supposed to mean

I told you things that you might already know
You sold me things I could never really use
Still I choose

And all the times I remembered to breathe
For once I thought it had turned out right
And all the times I remembered to speak
About the things I would cherish most

And all the times I remembered to see
Beyond the scope of reality
And all the times I remembered to dream
About the things I could wish to be
I don't know what that's supposed to mean
