“I should have learned to play the guitar instead of the piano.”
Those words have passed through my lips, and I meant it when I said it.
Knowing how to play the piano helps me a lot, don’t get me wrong, but the kind of music I listen to, the kind of music I like to write? Guitar music.
Revulsion is my first attempt to write on a guitar. I didn’t go to a keyboard first, then transfer the ideas to a guitar. No. The guitar was the source.
And like all beginning guitar players — and writers — the music coming from my fingers mirrors my guitar heroes. That would be Mukai Shuutoku and Tabuchi Hisako of NUMBER GIRL, with a bit of Cocco thrown in.
I considered trying to write a complete album on the guitar, but in 2005, when I started the project, I wasn’t confident in my playing to pull it off. I came up with seven ideas, and they translated to seven tracks.
